Part-Time and Full-Time 4×4 – What’s the Difference?

December 6th, 2018 by

Part of what makes the Jeep Wrangler JK a special off-road vehicle is not just the availability of a four-wheel-drive (4×4) system, but also a diversity of options. Depending on trim, you can pick one out of three: Command-Trac®, Rock-Trac®, and Selec-Trac®. While the first two are designed as part-time 4×4 systems, the third is designed as a full-time system. So, what’s the difference?

With the part-time Command-Trac® or Rock-Trac®, there’s a two-speed transfer case that allows you to shift from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive when you need power transferred to all wheels. That way, you can avoid losing control when on slippery or rocky surfaces. By contrast, the Selec-Trac® automatically switches from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive. Either way, all three systems ensure that your driving is safe and smooth.

So, whether you need a part-time 4×4 or full-time 4×4 system, come on over to our dealership today and check out the difference for yourself. Our team of Jeep specialists will be around to assist you with any questions or concerns.
